a banner. it says thank god the pandemic is over in a pixelated font and there are skeleton hands praying.

thank god the pandemic is over is a free monthly zine about the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

the zine is made on the land of the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation. sovereignty was never ceded and this always was, always will be Aboriginal Land.

January 2024

All images are scans of collages made up of cut up magazines. This first one is two shoppers from perhaps the 60s, 70s. They are chatting and one of them is pointing to something. The words 'present tense' in caps lock have been placed so it looks like the shoppers are pointing to them. The background is a root-like texture.
up the top of this one, the words 'public space?' in caps have been pasted. underneath, a book cover of the book 'sweet little lies' is placed. A graphic saying 'then and now' is reminscent of a flight board at the airport. A hand reaches for roots, pasted upside down - the text 'how to eat safely' has been pasted over the top. The word 'eat' is clearly from a different headline. A photograph of two mannequins in nighties, with the words 'watch out!' pasted over the top. A photograph of a crowd at a music concert with the word 'complicit' pasted over the top. A graphic of a cat that has been edited to be giving a thumbs down is next to the words 'thumbs down'.
The background of this one is comprised of a shower stream, a lush indoor garden, and a field of flowers. Over the indoor garden, text reads: 'How to grow', 'what is a good place to cool off?', 'what is your secret summer hideaway?', 'what is your summer soundtrack?', 'What is your favourite place to spend a warm summer's evening?', 'complexitity of belonging'. There is a little cartoon coronavirus. A cartoon of someone in bed says 'I didn't go to work today ... ... I don't think I'll go tomorrow'. Over the field of flowers, text reads 'and they found themselves in very difficult circumstances' and in caps 'feel connected'. There is a cartoon of someone reasding a book, scratching their head incredulously.
The background of this one is a garden, with foxgloves in the middle of the page. An artwork saying 'embrace the new' is covering up a rainbow artowkr that has partically covered text that reads 'I want a future that', the rest is obscured. More text reads 'Life as we know it is ending, sydney furious. Oh my god, this is it!'. A large paragraph has been pasted on: 'It is not the debt itself or those who we are in debt to that poses the greatest concern to us or our future generations. It is that we might become obsessed with deficits and decide to cut spending instead of caring and protecting our people and the planet.'
The whole page background is a surreal piece of artwork that is mostly a staircase, surrounded by mountains, lakes, trees, a chessboard. Text reads, in descending order: 'beyond this point', 'what's going on?', 'why pay attention?', 'what's going on?', 'why pay attention?', 'what's going on?', 'why pay attention?', 'What is a good life? what makes life worth living?'
